The Dream Village

Germany wants to beat all records in renewable energy.

In Friburg, the neighborhood Schlierberg, all built with solar panels, can produce four times more energy than it consumes, proving that green construction can be very lucrative.

The condo is energy self-sufficient and achieves this through its solar power project, which uses photovoltaic panels arranged in the correct direction. It seems a simple strategy, but usually designers think later in solar installations, and thus the panels lose some of its efficiency.

The village was designed by German architect Rolf Disch that emphasizes the construction of houses and villages are planning solar installations since the beginning of the project, incorporating clever way a series of large solar panels on the roofs. The buildings were also built within the norms of passive architecture, which allows to produce four times the amount of energy consumed.

The condo, with about 11 thousand square meters, has medium density, balanced size, accessibility, green spaces and sun exposure.

All the houses are built of wood and only ecological building materials. The color concept was developed by a artist from Berlin, Erich Wiesner.
Altogether there are 59 homes and a large commercial building, called Solar Ship, which create a habitable region with the lowest possible environmental impact. Nine of residential apartments are located on the roof of the commercial building. The multifamily homes have between 75 and 162 m².

The houses have great access to passive solar heating and use natural light. Each house has a simple roof with wide eaves, allowing the presence of the sun during the winter and protect homes during the summer. Advanced technologies such as vacuum insulation, increase the thermal performance of the building system.

The toppings have systems to capture rainwater. Allowing water is used for irrigation of gardens and toilet flushing. The buildings also use wood chips for heating in winter, further reducing the impact on the environment.

The system remain free of cars, thanks to the garage below the building trade, where there's a system of organized car sharing.
