The Legislature of the State of Rio de Janeiro approved yesterday (26/03), the bill authored by Ms Graça Pereira prohibiting the practice of esthetic surgery in dogs and cats in Rio de Janeiro.
Are prohibited so-called tail docking (removal of tail piece of the dogs and cats), ergotectomia (removal of the nails of cats), conchectomy (removal of part of the ears of dogs), onicoplastia or onicotomia (surgery in the corner of the nail).
According to the author of the project, "the aesthetic taste of the owners does not justify the sacrifice that these animals are exposed and that any surgical practice should be made to save life or to repair the damage caused," she says.
The bill now goes to sanction or veto by the Governor.
